Hey King Cake fans!
Tired of being trapped inside feeding a hungry woodstove? Fed up with seeing the outside world through the frost on your windows? Is it finally cold enough for ya?  If so, then you could be suffering from cabin fever, snow blondeness or the winter blues. Fear not, the cure is at hand!
The 2009 Winter Blues Fest is almost here! Coming Saturday  February 21st to the Elks Club in Willimantic! Doors open at 7pm.
Proceeds to benefit the Willimantic 3rd Thursday Street Festival which needs your support now more than ever in these recessive times.This year the bands are: the Chili Blues Band, the Kingpins, and of course King Cake
Tickets are available at: the Willi Food CoOp, Swiftwaters Artisans Cooperative, and Fred's Brickhouse Cafe .Please be sure to patronize these fine local businesses while you are there.

Big thanks to all who attended and played at the benefit for my wife Meryl last Saturday at the Elks. It was hugely successful. Such an outpouring of love and support makes us feel proud to be a part of this community.

King Cake will be concluding our financial bailout tour at Fred's Brickhouse Cafe this Friday December 12th for our half price Christmas Special! Music starts at 7pm!  There will be lots of great tunes and fun by your favorite band, King Cake.  So pack the kids up after Christmas shopping and haul 'em down to Fred's for some good clean American winter fun and Holiday Cheer! After all there's a recession on! Might as well celebrate as cheaply as possible! And there's no one cheaper than us!

King Cake will be continuing our economic bailout tour at Sneakers in Ashford, CT this Friday 11/21/08. We are applying for government aid to  compensate us because we made the  foolish economic decision of becoming musicians. We really had no way of knowing that playing music was not an incredibly lucrative business. All the years of people telling us to get  real jobs and yelling "Skynrd" were simply inaccurate indicators of the state of the music market. So you see, the current crisis has caught us completely by surprise. We give you all full assurances that if you just bail us out this one time that we will never ever be  so foolish again. Unless of course another set of unforeseen circumstances occurs....
Show starts at 9pm for all you geezers who can't stay up anymore......  

King Cake will be playing at Fred's Brickhouse Cafe this Friday October 31st for a Halloween Costume Gala. There will be a costume contest, and of course lots of great music by your favorite band, King Cake.  So pack the kids up after trick or treating and haul 'em down to Fred's for some good clean American Halloween fun!

 Whoops! I meant to get to this much sooner Your favorite band King Cake will be at Fred's Brick House Cafe tomorrow night 8/15/08. As usual the show starts at 7pm.
We will also be performing next Thursday 8/21/08 at the 3rd Thursday Street Fest on the Gospel Stage at the First Baptist Church along with Dr.Rev. Fred Shapiro's Traveler. Traveler's up at 6pm, King Cake at 7:45. Hope to see you at one of these fine events.

July is here and so is the heat. Kinda makes me want to throw a backyard mud wrestling party. There’s no better way to beat the heat. It’s good for the skin and it keeps the bugs off……

Friday July 18^th at Fred’s Brickhouse Café  Show starts at 7pm. Great Pizza and the Cold Beer of your choice. Bring the whole famn damily!

Sunday July 20^th  for the Bailey’s Garden Benefit at  the Lebanon Fairgrounds. Peter Tork of the Monkees is headlining, also appearing is Patti Tuite, King Cake plays from 3:45- 4:45pm. Admission $20 help support a good cause and see a whole day of great music! See the attached poster

the Sunshine Festival fund raiser for the Windham Safe House at the Sports Bar in Windham starting at 1:30 p.m. Music by Bruce John's Eagleville Band, Buckwheat Johnson, King Cake, Patty Tuite and the Boilermakers and Desiree and The Time Machine. Raffle, food and drink. Admission: $20. Must be age 21. King Cake plays at 4pm.

In other news, one of our chickens hatched out five baby chicks a couple of days ago. She  had made herself a nest
out by the retaining wall and sat on her eggs through rain and wind. It kind of does my heart good because our flock had dwindled down over the past couple of years due to coyotes and a Yorkshire Terrier who I can only hope has moved on to a better place....
 Anyway we had gotten down to one hen who we named Biddy. She had survived because she had taken to roosting in a tree next to the house at night. Then, towards the end of last summer we acquired a rooster from a friend who had too many. Really any more than one rooster is too many (as my lovely wife learned the hard way in a previous installment....) so, we ended up with Handsome. I had wanted to call him Kelloggs because he looks like the Kelloggs rooster but was out voted. (Being the farm boy that I am I'm not crazy about naming animals that have the potential to be eaten anyway but seeing as he is the rooster.....) Handsome takes his job seriously  and starts work promptly at 5:30 every morning.
 Well,  nature took its course and they had a few chicks in the fall one of whom survived through the winter who we call Peep. Peep is a hen now and of course no longer peeps but the name persists. She is also the proud and devoted  mother of our new chicks. Hopefully they are numerous enough that that giving them names will prove futile.
